For his part, Andry Parouby said: “For us, the issue of the granting of autocephaly is not only a religious issue. It is also a problem of national security and of unity of the Ukrainian people”. Patriarch Theophilos highlighted the fact that a distinction must be made between political leadership and moral behavior. As for the autocephaly, the Patriarch of Jerusalem stated the following: “Politicians view the issue in their own way, while spiritual leaders must rely on the wisdom and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Our duty is to help unity and not to create a dissociation between the State and the Church “. According to the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament, the Patriarch recognized the right of every Orthodox people to have their own local national Church, but for this to happen, according to him, dialogue is necessary, as well as mutual understanding between Orthodox in the Ukraine.
