Since 2015, May 17 is a day worldwide dedicated to events against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOTB).
The Orthodox Church professes that marriage is the holy and sacramental union between one man and one woman.
Consequently, this year, on the day which also happened to be the feast of the Ascension, the Georgian Orthodox Church decided to make a statement by organizing a procession, as well as celebrating four hundred marriages throughout the capital city of the country.
The Georgian Church organized a similar event in 2017. And in 2014, Ilia II, Patriarch of Georgia, decided that this day would be dedicated to Family Holiness and Honor of Parents. In Moldova, the Orthodox Church has been asking the government to ban the LGBT march.
