The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Antioch, which met under the presidency of Patriarch John X at the Balamand monastery, finished its work. The Patriarchate of Antioch proceeded to the election of bishops and metropolitans, and examined the prevailing situation in Syria and in the Middle East. The Holy Synod again expressed its strong protest about Qatar. “The Patriarch of Antioch suffers because of the intrusion and establishment of a church of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem within the limits of the canonical jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Antioch, in Qatar,” said the Holy Synod of the Church of Antioch.
In this regard, the Patriarchate of Antioch demanded the unanimity of the churches to solve of the problem, in order to preserve the unity against new fragmentations and divisions. In addition, the Holy Synod appealed to all for the metropolitans of Aleppo who were abducted, and demanded their release. “Five full years have passed since the abduction of Metropolitan Pavlos of Aleppo and Syro-Jacobite Metropolitan  John Ibrahim! This constitutes a shameful crime against human civilization and human rights. The purpose of the kidnapping is the eradication of Christianity in Syria and in the East, as well as the intimidation of Christians”, highlighted the Patriarchate of Antioch.
It should be noted that the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Antioch condemns the actions of Israel in connection with the recent aggression against the people of Palestine. “The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Antioch expresses its solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemns the massacres carried out by the Israeli authorities against unarmed citizens and children,” it says in the Patriarchate’s statement. They added: “We cannot forget history, that is, Jerusalem is the legitimate capital of Palestine for Christians and Muslims.” Finally, the Holy Synod stressed again that they pray for peace and the cessation of the fighting in Syria resulting from the unjust war of terrorist acts in recent years.
