L’higoumène du monastère de Dečani : « À ceux qui ont oublié ce que nous avons encore au Kosovo et en Métochie… »

While persistent rumors are circulating about the possible partition of Kosovo between Serbs, north of the Ibar river (Kosovska Mitrovica District) and Albanians south of the river, Hegumen Sava (Janjić) of the Dečani monastery published the following message on Facebook:

“To those who forgot what we still have in Kosovo and Metohija, south of the Ibar, we recall that two thirds of the 120,000 Serbs with their wives and children live south of the Ibar, mostly in the Kosovsko Pomoravlje District, near Gračanica and Štrpce, while only one third live in northern Kosovo. In addition, south of the Ibar, we have:

– 140 churches, served by the priests of the diocese of Raska-Prizren. For some of them, up to four of their children live in exclusively Albanian areas

– 10 active monasteries with about 100 monks and nuns

– 1 theological seminar in Prizren with 80 students, professors and employees

– 4 monuments classified by UNESCO: the monasteries of the Patriarchate of Peć, Dečani, Gračanica, and the church of the Mother of God Ljeviška [in Prizren], which happen to be the most important monuments of the Serbian culture

– the public and private property of tens of thousands of people, as well as natural properties, about which state institutions have more precise data.

Of course, all of this is also important for the other people who live here and with whom we wish to live in peace. I suppose there is enough air and water for all, and that we are able to respect each other, as people who didn’t choose among which people and in what place they would be born.”
