On May 25 reposed Protopresbyter Valery Lukyanov, the ROCOR oldest priest. Father Valery was born in China in 1927. Because of the war, he was sent to a refugee camp in the Philippines, and arrived in the US in 1950. He was the last to be ordained to the diaconate by Holy Hierarch John of Shanghai, in 1963.
The ROCOR Eastern American Diocese posted about his long life, his studies, and his numerous achievements, especially the overseeing of the construction of Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell, NJ.
Father Valery wrote several books. My Soul, Arise – Spiritual, Biographical & Historical Essays is scheduled to be published this year.
Many faithful attended his funeral on May 29, and felt it as a triumph of Orthodoxy.
