Saint Alexander Nevsky, a 300-ft-high church, is planned in Kerch, at the entrance of the Republic of Crimea.

It will be one of the highest churches in the country.

The act of the return of the land to the diocese of Feodosia was signed during the 4th International Economic Forum of Yalta, by Sergei Borozdine, head of the administration of the city of Kerch, and by Metropolitan Platon of Feodosia and Kerch.

“We hope for a quick build,” said Borozdine.

The plans of the church were designed by the Moscow Cultural Center, its construction is planned on a hill located at the entrance to Crimea, on the left bank of the Crimea Bridge currently under construction.

According to Metropolitan Platon, soil reinforcement work will be undertaken. He added that the beginning date of the construction has not yet been decided. “It may be after the completion of the bridge, or perhaps at the same time. ”

If the church is built according to the project selected, with its height, the church of Kerch will be the fifth in the Russian Federation, after the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow (337 ft.), Saint  Isaac Church in St. Petersburg (333 ft.), the Transfiguration Cathedral in Khabarovsk (314 ft.) and Smolny Monastery in St. Petersburg.

The Crimean Bridge connects the peninsula to the mainland by train and car. It will be 11 miles long, which is a record for Russia. It will be open to cars in May 2018 and to trains in 2019.
