On January 6, 2019, after the singing of the national anthems of Greece and Egypt, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria received Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, the new Governor of Alexandria. The latter came to the Patriarchal See of Alexandria to convey Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s wishes for the new year 2019, and for the festivities that ended with the celebration of Theophany.
The reception was particularly warm, which once again shows the close relations between the two nations, as well as between Egypt and the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
“Through you, we thank His Excellency the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, for the protection he offers to our Patriarchate,” said the Primate of the Church of Alexandria, as he warmly welcomed the new governor.
Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa entered the Great Throne Room accompanied by numerous representatives of the army, the police, and the authorities. Patriarch Theodore, accompanied by Metropolitan Narcissus of Accra, particularly thanked the Egyptian army for the protection it gives throughout the country and for its fight against terrorism.
For his part, the Governor of Alexandria spoke in laudatory terms about the work done by the Patriarchate of Alexandria and about the contribution of the Hellenic community of Alexandria to the land of the Nile. The military attaché of the Greek Embassy honored the ceremony with his presence.
