In his sermon for September 24, Metropolitan Arseny of Svyatogorsk stated that the three main Ukrainian monasteries (Kyiv, Pochayiv, and Svyatogorsk) were categorically opposed to autocephaly.
This is in reaction to the so-called Patriarch Filaret’s claim that these lavras should belong to a new local church led by himself.
Specifying that statesmen should not interfere with Church affairs, Metropolitan Arseny said that “the only thing that a modern man, including politicians, should change is their sinful life for a righteous life”.
The abbot also encouraged the faithful to keep praying and remain steadfast in their church practice. Abbess Seraphima confirmed that the clergy and the faithful would be ready to defend the lavras.
